In 2026, Texas is witnessing a renaissance in wind energy development, with new projects expected to contribute an additional 10 GW of capacity by the end of the year, further solidifying its position as the leading state in wind energy generation.
The Wind Coalition announced that several large-scale wind farms are currently under construction in the Texas Panhandle, with expected completion dates slated for the first quarter of 2027. Notable projects include the Red Rock Wind Farm, which alone will generate 1.5 GW of renewable energy.

The new wind farms are expected to create over 5,000 jobs during construction and more than 1,200 permanent positions once operational. This job creation comes at a critical time for many rural communities in Texas, where economic opportunities can be limited.
Additionally, the expansion of wind energy is being fueled by favorable federal policies, including tax incentives for renewable energy projects. The Investment Tax Credit is encouraging companies to invest in wind technology, making it economically viable for developers.
The state's competitive energy market and abundant wind resources have attracted major players in the industry, such as GE Renewable Energy and Siemens Gamesa, who are actively involved in developing these projects.
As the demand for renewable energy continues to grow, Texas is set to achieve its goal of producing 30% of its energy needs from wind by 2030. The state's commitment to expanding its renewable energy portfolio is critical in addressing future energy challenges and combating climate change.
With Texas’s vast landscape and favorable wind conditions, experts believe that the state could further increase its wind capacity beyond 100 GW by 2040, positioning Texas as a global leader in wind energy production.
