Reports indicate that solar installations in Texas increased by over 30% in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period last year. The state is now home to more than 1.2 million residential solar systems, solidifying its position as a national leader in solar energy.
The recent introduction of the Solar Energy Investment Tax Credit (ITC), which offers a 30% tax credit for solar investments, has incentivized both homeowners and businesses. This policy change is expected to generate an additional $2 billion in solar investments over the next five years.

The Texas Solar Energy Association (TSEA) has reported a shortage of qualified workers to install and maintain solar systems. “We need to invest in training programs to equip our workforce for this fast-evolving industry,” urged Lisa Martinez, TSEA’s Executive Director.
In response to these labor challenges, several educational institutions, including Texas State University and the University of Texas, have initiated degree programs focused on renewable energy technologies. These efforts aim to cultivate a new generation of energy professionals equipped to meet the rising demand.
