In a remarkable turn of events, Texas oil exports have soared to a record high, reaching 4.5 million barrels per day in June 2026, driven by strong global demand and recovering economies.
According to the latest data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration, Texas now accounts for over 60% of total U.S. crude oil exports, surpassing previous records set in 2019. This surge is attributed to increased demand from Asia and Europe, particularly as countries emerge from pandemic-induced restrictions.
“We are in a unique position where the global demand for oil is exceeding expectations, and Texas is at the forefront of this wave,” said Kyle Thompson, Chief Executive Officer of Thompson Oil Corp., a major player in the Texas oil market. “Our infrastructure is robust, and we are ready to meet the needs of international buyers.”
The majority of the exports are directed towards China, which has increased its imports of Texas crude by nearly 30% this year alone. The Port of Corpus Christi has become a critical hub for these exports, with new facilities being constructed to accommodate the vast volumes of oil being shipped out.
Furthermore, the rise in oil prices, which topped $90 per barrel in July 2026, has incentivized Texas oil companies to ramp up production. With operational costs decreasing due to technological advancements, profits are expected to skyrocket for local producers.
However, regulatory challenges remain a concern. With the Biden administration’s focus on climate change, companies are navigating a complex landscape of regulations that could impact future investments in fossil fuels. “We need clarity from the federal government to ensure the longevity of our operations,” commented Linda Garcia, a policy advisor at Texas Oil and Gas Association.
Despite these challenges, the outlook for Texas oil exports remains optimistic, as the global demand is projected to continue its upward trajectory through 2027. Analysts are confident that Texas will remain a dominant player in the global oil market for the foreseeable future.
