Despite ongoing global uncertainties, Texas agribusiness continues to showcase resilience, with exports reaching a record high in the first half of 2026.
According to the Texas International Trade Office, agricultural exports from the state totaled $8.4 billion in the first six months of 2026, a 10% increase compared to the same period last year. This growth is attributed to strong demand for Texas beef, cotton, and corn, which have seen increased international interest, particularly from Asia.
While many sectors of the global economy are facing headwinds, Texas agricultural producers are benefiting from favorable trade agreements and a weakening dollar, which has made Texas goods more competitive on the international market. Trade expert Dr. Emily Rios stated, “The recent trade agreements have opened up new markets for Texas farmers, allowing them to expand their reach and increase exports.”
The state’s beef industry, in particular, has seen significant growth, with exports reaching $4.2 billion in the first half of the year, a 15% increase from 2025. Major importing countries include Japan and South Korea, where demand for high-quality Texas beef remains strong.
Cotton exports have also surged, driven by the textile industry’s recovery post-pandemic. Houston-based Texas Cotton Exporters reported that shipments have increased by 12%, driven primarily by demand from China and Vietnam.
However, challenges remain, particularly related to supply chain disruptions and fluctuating shipping costs. Many exporters are working to streamline operations and adapt to these dynamics. “We are constantly looking for ways to improve our logistics and reduce costs to maintain our competitive edge,” said Mark Chen, logistics manager for Texas Grain Co.
As the Texas agricultural sector continues to navigate these complexities, the state's farmers remain optimistic. With a solid foundation in place, they are prepared to meet both domestic and international demands, ensuring that Texas remains a key player in the global agricultural market.
