The Dallas-Fort Worth area is rapidly emerging as a significant player in the cybersecurity industry, drawing attention and investment from major corporations.
With an estimated 200 cybersecurity firms operating in the region, DFW has seen a remarkable 40% growth in cybersecurity-related jobs over the past year, according to a report by the Texas Cybersecurity Council.
Global tech giants such as IBM and AT&T have made substantial investments to enhance their cybersecurity offerings in the area, establishing research and development centers to innovate against evolving threats.
“Dallas-Fort Worth is positioning itself as a national leader in cybersecurity,” said Tom Barrett, director of the Texas Cybersecurity Council. “With our strong academic institutions and tech infrastructure, we are creating an environment that not only attracts companies but also cultivates the next generation of cybersecurity experts.”
One of the key drivers of this growth is the presence of top academic programs, such as those offered at the University of Texas at Dallas and Texas A&M University, which are producing skilled graduates ready to enter the workforce.
The Texas workforce has also benefited from the Cybersecurity Workforce Development Program, funded by the state to provide training and resources for individuals looking to enter the field. The program aims to increase the number of qualified cybersecurity professionals by 50% within the next five years.
As cybersecurity threats continue to evolve, the demand for skilled professionals is expected to rise sharply. The DFW area is thus well-positioned to become a central hub for cybersecurity innovation and development, with potential for further economic growth.
Local government officials are optimistic about the future, with plans to host the upcoming Texas Cybersecurity Summit in November 2026, intending to bring together industry leaders and policymakers to discuss emerging trends and strategies to combat cyber threats.
